Last weekend was house hunting weekend.
We drove out to the cape Friday night and stayed in our first P.E.O. Bed & Breakfast, with Kay, a sister from Chapter X. Kay was wonderful: she had a lovely house and she made us a delicious breakfast Saturday morning. (I must say that B&B is a fabulous thing P.E.O.s do for each other and to raise money for our projects.) After our visit with Kay in Chatham, we only had to drive 20 minutes to get the 9 am ferry in Hyannis, so Saturday morning started without any rushing around.
We really enjoyed the two hour ferry ride, and had some relaxing family time just hanging out, playing with toys, and looking forward to a day of apartment hunting. We spent much of the ride inside because it was chilly and really windy, but we did step out to take a few pictures as we pulled into the harbor.
Then, we had a quick walk from the harbor to Brotherhood of Thieves, just up the street. Where we had a delicious lunch with steaming soup: french onion for Chris and lobster bisque for me (yum!). Too bad I was too busy diving right in to remember to take a picture of any of the food…
After lunch (and a long nap for Miss Nora), we took a little stroll through town to take in the sunshine and beauty that is Nantucket. Does it get any cuter or more welcoming than cobblestone streets, cedar siding, and window boxes? We kept having to remind ourselves that this is really happening!
And, we didn’t forget to stop by an old home for Chris, 21 Federal. Unfortunately, the restaurant doesn’t open for the season until May, so he couldn’t pop in on his old Chef, but he’ll have a chance to do that again very soon.
After all that, we did, of course, look at a few apartments (oh yeah, that’s what we came out here for!). We only saw four, not as many as we would have hoped, but it’s not exactly the easiest real estate market to negotiate, especially for renters with one income. They were progressively better as the day went on, and we did manage to find a place. A house! In town! A 15 minute walk from Brotherhood! With a fenced yard!
